Bookkept is a cloud-based tax and business advisory firm located in Melbourne, servicing clients Australia wide. We offer a comprehensive range of accounting and business advisory services tailored to meet all accounting requirements across a wide range of industries.
We’re not just accountants, we’re business people too. We know what it takes to start a company and risk it all to build a successful business. Our experience navigating the business world began with our own involvement in respective family businesses and grew through over 15 years of combined experience in the tax and business services landscape.
Cliché as it may sound, we are not your typical accounting firm. After working in various accounting firms with clunky software, cubicles and excessive middle management Daniel and Brendan came together with a clear vision of what a progressive accounting firm should look like. We’ve thrown out all of the stereotypes; timesheets, charge out rates and silly overheads to deliver innovative and actual value to our clients. Your typical accounting firm has all these things and then inadvertently passes these costs on to their clients through inflated bills that increase every year. We provide complete transparency when it comes to our fees. We charge for delivering a service, rather than running a clock.
Bookkept helps clients manage their cash-flow and delivers continuous value by providing high level visibility on business performance. Besides handling tax and bookkeeping matters, we provide true value to our clients by guiding them through their financial reports, enabling them to better understand how to control their growth and take opportunities further and higher. We keep in touch with our clients on a regular basis to ensure they are on top of their taxes rather than meeting with them once a year to discuss a big tax bill for a tax period that ended 9 months prior.
We walk our clients through the many accounting processes within their business structure and provide guidance and insights on tax planning and asset protection. We call this ‘future proofing’.
There is no greater thrill for us than when our clients hit and/or smash their goals out of the park! We are dedicated to creating innovative and bespoke accounting solutions for our clients using a suite of cloud-based products to achieve customised birds eye view of their business and how it is performing. We practice what we preach too, our office is completely paperless and cloud-based – we don’t even have a printer!

Meet our Directors
Brendan Thorp is a small business guru and understands the challenges business owners face. He is dedicated to helping his clients improve efficiencies across all areas of their business, from implementing cloud software solutions to advising on legal structures for tax minimisation and asset protection.
His energy is contagious and drives his great passion for helping entrepreneurs to grow exciting businesses. He has a very hands-on approach with his clients and is committed to providing the highest level of service to each client’s unique objectives.
During his 8 years of tax and small business experience Brendan has advised a wide range of clients including franchises, café and restaurants, trades and medical professionals. He has gained a wealth of knowledge on business structures and ensures his clients are set up correctly from the beginning.
Brendan is a fully qualified CPA Accountant and a member of CPA Australia. He is also a Registered Tax Agent and holds a combined Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Business from the University of Newcastle.
Brendan is committed to ensuring his clients are always tax compliant, whilst simultaneously offering them savvy advice on how to minimise their tax and achieve their business goals. Brendan prides himself on being a clear and effective communicator which is very useful when explaining complex tax rules and different scenarios to his business clients.
Brendan loves keeping busy and outside of work has served on a number sporting club boards and University Associations. On the weekends you will find him playing soccer, enjoying a round of golf, or socialising over a couple of beers.
Dan Heness is a serial innovator, always looking for new and better ways of doing things both within our business and our clients’. A tie-loathing, people person Dan honed his skills working in several different size accounting firms with a wide variety of clients. His professionalism and attention to detail is what sets him apart and his clients love his enthusiastic approach to business.
With much of his time spent working with owners of start-ups, small and medium sized businesses Dan always has his finger on the pulse when it comes to legislative changes and the latest business trends. As a business owner himself, Dan is well positioned to advise his clients through all stages of the business life cycle and takes great satisfaction in his clients’ success.
Dan has over 10 years of experience dealing with business advisory and taxation issues. He is passionate about his clients and dedicated to ensuring he delivers the best possible service. Dan’s astute business knowledge and extensive experience in providing tax and consulting advice, has paved the way to success for many businesses.
Drawing from his expertise in IT and computers in general, Dan is well positioned to provide comprehensive accounting solutions and consulting services for small to medium-sized businesses. He is a member of the CPA Australia, a registered Tax Agent and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Acc.) from Griffith University.
On the weekends you will find Dan exploring Melbourne’s bustling Chapel Street, helping his Dad’s café navigate the small-business landscape, and taking time out to travel with his partner.
